The Doctor's Notes: Endometriosis: What is it?

The endometrium is the lining of the uterus. In reproductive age women it functions as the site for implantation of a newly created embryo. When endometrial tissue is found in areas outside the uterine cavity, it is known as endometriosis.

 

Endometriosis is most commonly found in the pelvis, however it has also been found in almost every site in the body including brain and lung.
